The Journey Begins

Hey everyone,

Russell Simpson here, just an ordinary bloke with a bit of a story to tell about his throat cancer journey. You see, what started as a seemingly simple toothache has turned into a bit of a saga. And as someone who believes in the power of a positive outlook and a good laugh, I thought I’d share my journey with you all.

It All Began with a Toothache

Like many, I have a tendency to brush off health issues with a classic “She’ll be right” attitude. So, when I first noticed a bit of pain in my mouth, I chalked it up to an infected tooth. Fast forward eight months, and I noticed the lymph nodes on the right side of my neck were swollen and starting to get sore. Naturally, I figured it was still that pesky tooth acting up and decided it was time to get it yanked out.

The Backstory

Throughout those eight months, I’d been seeing my doctor regularly. They did what they could, thinking it was just a tooth infection too. X-rays confirmed a pocket of infection above one of my teeth. So, off I went to the dentist to have the tooth removed.

But here’s where things took a turn. Even after the tooth was out and I was loaded up with antibiotics, the swollen lymph node didn’t go down. It was like my body was trying to tell me, “Mate, there’s more to this story.”

The Roller Coaster Begins

From that point, it felt like I was on a non-stop ride of tests, biopsies, and consultations. What happened over two weeks felt like an eternity. Every day brought a new appointment, a new specialist, and a new piece of information. It was a whirlwind, to say the least.

But here’s the thing – amidst the whirlwind, I found pockets of calm. I’ve always believed in taking time to be quiet and still, to calm the mind. It’s amazing how a bit of peace and quiet can help you face the chaos with a clearer head.

The Support Team

I wouldn’t be able to handle this journey alone. My family – my loving wife and two beautiful children – have been my rock. They’re riding this emotional roller coaster right alongside me, and their support has been nothing short of amazing.

And then there’s the medical team who provide help managing health during cancer treatment. These folks are like my new best mates. From the doctors who explain things in a way that makes sense, to the nurses who always have a kind word and a smile – they’ve made this whole process a bit less daunting.

Looking Ahead – a positive outlook on cancer

So, here we are. The journey has just begun, and while it’s not the road I’d have chosen, I’m determined to walk it with a smile. I’ll keep you all posted on how things progress, the ups and downs, and everything in between.

Remember, it’s not just about the destination but the journey. And with a bit of humor and a lot of heart, we’ll get through this together.

Stay positive, stay healthy, and I’ll catch you next week.
